“America is Back” or “America First” and the Transatlantic Relationship

The presidency of Donald Trump represented an unprecedented low point in transatlantic relations. When Joe Biden took power early 2021, his administration launched several policy initiatives suggesting that the new would continue to allow seemingly long-term weakening relationship continue. A significant part literature on recent developments relations points same direction, namely a cooperation across Atlantic has taken place. This article proposes alternative view, arguing strengthened years despite and erratic policy. applies theoretical framework combining international as well domestic variables.
